Town Hall Meeting with Stakeholders

The Adolescent Girls Initiative For Learning and Empowerment, Kaduna State has organized a one-day town hall meeting with stakeholders across the state to discuss on the AGILE journey so far, present achievements, planned activities and respond to questions on the different interventions of the Project.

AGILE, a project assisted by the World Bank is supporting Kaduna State to provide improvements in education infrastructure in over 550 Secondary schools across the State. These interventions are in the form of Small grants for minor renovations and large grants for major renovations.

The aim of AGILE is to improve Secondary Schools education outcomes for Adolescent girls in Kaduna State, in the last 8 months the project has prioritized the provision of WASH facilities (clean toilets and portable water supply) to all secondary schools in the State.

The project has also funded the renovation of dilapidated classrooms, building of fences to secure the students and school facilities, other interventions of the project include the introduction of digital literacy programs to empower girls with soft skills that give them an opportunity to find means of livelihood and also Live skills programs that builds their confidence and teach them to find self-agency in life.

Another key component of AGILE is the provision of scholarships for adolescent girls (in the form of conditional cash transfer) from poor and vulnerable households.

With the scholarship, the World Bank intends that the enrollment, retention, transition and completion rate will improve. As an encouragement the Bank is providing the mother’s / caregivers of these girls with green clean cook stoves to discourage sending girls during school hours to get firewood for the family.

Participants at the town hall are drawn from communities, civil society, Ministries, departments and agencies, traditional and religious institutions.
The town hall is providing a platform for the State project implementation unit to parley with community stakeholders and other development partners, NGOs and CSOs to get their feedback on the activities implemented by AGILE and present the scorecard of progress made so far in the past 8 months, while finding best avenues for continuous collaboration for advancement of the project.
